Harmac Collaborates with Say Yes Buffalo on Diversity & Equity Program
December 21, 2020
Say Yes Buffalo Executive Director David Rust invited our President & CEO John Somers to join him in a recent presentation to 50+ area employers and discuss Harmac’s commitment to diversity & equity. We employ 40 nationalities companywide with over 20 at our Buffalo headquarters and believe there is strength in diversity. John shared recruitment strategies such as our partnerships with the International Institute of Buffalo, Northland Workforce Training Center, Catholic Charities Workforce Development, Jericho Road Community Health Center and others. They also discussed retention strategies and the importance of building an employment culture using a safe, welcoming lens. For example, we have a prayer room for our Muslim employees and provide a free week of summer camp for any employee’s children or grandchildren.
We’re proud to partner with Say Yes Buffalo and support their promise of a scholarship for every graduate of Buffalo’s public and charter schools — 80% of whom are students of color. It’s one of many ways we stay true to our own mission of changing the lives of patients, employees and the communities in which we work. If you’d like to learn how you can make your workplace more diverse and inclusive, contact us and we'll be happy to share what's worked well for Harmac.
